Are you going out to drive? Military convoys affect traffic in the coming days

Norwegian authorities are warning drivers of increased military transport, advising them to plan for delays due to military convoys on the roads.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has issued a warning to the public about significant military transportation activity expected in the coming days, which will manifest as convoys and heavy vehicles on the roads. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to be prepared for potential delays, as they may encounter military convoys or find themselves behind them. Siril Veiåker Nilsen, head of the Northern Traffic Operations Center, emphasizes the importance of patience for drivers who find themselves behind these military groups, urging them to slow down and drive cautiously, especially after dark.

Although there is no strict ban on overtaking a military convoy, the regulations state that doing so could violate traffic rules if it obstructs or disrupts the convoy's movement. The agency reminds motorists to be aware of certain precautions: overtaking is only permissible on roads with four lanes, drivers should not cut into the convoy, and maintaining a safe distance while following their instructions is crucial. This messaging highlights not only the operational logistics of military movements but also underscores the importance of road safety during such events.

Military convoys will be identified by blue flags on the leading vehicle and green flags on the last vehicle, making them easily recognizable to other road users. The increased presence of military vehicles on the road can potentially disrupt normal traffic patterns, necessitating heightened awareness among drivers. Compliance with these traffic advisories is vital for ensuring both safety and the smooth continuation of military operations during this period of increased transportation activity.
