A notable increase in the use of generative artificial intelligence for producing sexualized images among adolescents in the United States has been observed, according to a study published in the journal PLOS One. The research surveyed American youth aged 13 to 17, indicating that more than half of the participants had utilized at least one tool or website to alter a real person's photo, a process identified as deepfake technology. Moreover, the study highlights that approximately 50% of the respondents reported having received such altered images themselves.
