A female cougar was spotted running through the streets of the Higienópolis neighborhood in Bauru, São Paulo, during the early hours of Tuesday, October 17. The incident was capture in a video by occupants of a vehicle, who filmed the moment the frightened animal reacted to their presence, highlighting the unexpected incursion of wildlife into urban areas. The cougar traversed several streets and caused a stir among local residents before eventually being located in the garage of a home belonging to a 92-year-old man on Rua Constituição.
Footage showed the cougar making its way down Rua Capitão João Antônio and turning onto Rua Xingu, approximately 500 meters from where it was finally rescued. The series of videos also included security camera recordings, painting a vivid picture of the cougar's journey through the suburban landscape, presenting not only a spectacle but also raising alarm about the safety and presence of large wildlife within populated regions. Following the rescue operation conducted by the Fire Department, the young female cougar, estimated to be between 10 months and 1 year old and weighing around 20 kilograms, was taken into custody for further evaluation.
