Ukraine, the frontline is burning: here are the points where the war is decided. Kiev shields itself with the SAMP/T NG system.

Ukraine is set to receive the advanced SAMP/T NG air defense system from France for combat testing, as President Zelensky emphasizes its importance for intercepting ballistic missiles.

France has announced it will send a battery of the next-generation SAMP/T NG air defense missile system to Ukraine for combat testing. Following discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine would receive this new system within the year, with the expectation to evaluate its effectiveness in intercepting ballistic missiles. He also mentioned that Ukraine seeks priority access should the system prove successful in combat conditions.

Macron previously indicated in November 2025 that the deployment of new SAMP/T systems could occur in Ukraine by 2026. The SAMP/T NG is an advanced iteration of the air defense missile systems developed by MBDA, which have already been deployed in Ukraine, successfully achieving multiple interceptions of drones and cruise missiles, and notably, at least one Russian bomber. This new version is specifically optimized for a higher success rate against short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

The deployment of the SAMP/T NG signals a strengthening of Ukraine's air defense capabilities at a crucial time in the ongoing conflict. As the war continues, the success of this system could have significant implications not only for Ukrainian defenses but also for wider international support and military cooperation with allies like France, potentially altering the dynamics of warfare in the region.
