"I am innocent": the version of businessman Marcelo Porcel, accused of abusing 10 of his son's classmates at Palermo Chico school

Businessman Marcelo Porcel claims innocence against accusations of sexual abuse involving 10 adolescents at the Palermo Chico school.

Marcelo Porcel, a 51-year-old businessman, is facing serious allegations of sexual abuse concerning ten adolescents who attended Palermo Chico school with his children, between the ages of 13 and 14, from 2022 to 2024. In a recent judicial hearing, Porcel declared, "I am innocent," and through his attorney, Roberto Rallín, he plans to submit a written statement in the upcoming days, firmly denying the accusations against him.

Porcel is known for his involvement with Oh! Buenos Aires, a Uruguayan holding company that previously ran a shopping mall at the site of the former Buenos Aires Design in Recoleta. He is also connected to an agricultural firm started by his family. Notably, his father founded Argencard, a popular credit card in the 1970s, which was sold in 1995. The prominence and financial resources of Porcel have raised concerns among the families of the victims, who have been advocating for legal actions since late last year.

Ultimately, the judge Manuel Bruniard has summoned Porcel for this investigation, after pressure from the victims’ families. The situation underscores the intersection of power, privilege, and justice within the framework of serious accusations of child abuse, highlighting the complexities that arise when wealthy figures face allegations in a legal system that often comes under scrutiny for its effectiveness in protecting vulnerable populations.
