Flu Spread is Decreasing, but it is Still at Epidemic Levels
In Latvia, flu activity is gradually decreasing but remains at epidemic levels according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).
Flu activity in Latvia is showing a gradual decline, with the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) reporting that it still remains at epidemic levels. Last week, the national microbiology reference laboratory confirmed the flu in 10.1% of the tested samples, down from 15.5% the previous week. The majority of confirmed cases were identified as type A flu viruses, with a noted increase in the circulation of subtype A/H1pdm alongside the dominant A/H3 subtype.
The simultaneous spread of flu, Covid-19, and other respiratory infections has prompted SPKC to urge residents to adhere to preventive measures. They recommend frequent handwashing, ensuring proper ventilation in spaces, avoiding crowded places, and wearing medical masks or respirators when necessary. In the case of illness, individuals are advised to stay home, consult their family doctor, and follow medical instructions to reduce transmission risks.
This situation reflects ongoing public health efforts to manage infectious disease spread in the country. The current winter season has seen higher vigilance as flu and Covid-19 cases coincide, stressing the importance of community adherence to health guidelines in controlling the epidemic levels of the flu. The monitoring of flu cases serves as vital data to inform ongoing public health responses and preparedness moving forward.
