Diesel close to 8 zł. Price increases at stations are not over yet

Fuel prices have significantly increased again in Poland, with diesel reaching an average of 7.76 zł per liter, the highest since November 2022.

Recent data shows a sharp increase in liquid fuel prices at Polish stations, with diesel now averaging 7.76 zł per liter, gasoline at 6.79 zł, and autogas at 3.32 zł. This represents the highest cost for diesel since November 2022, the highest for gasoline since April 2023, and autogas prices at their peak since July 2022. Despite Orlen, Poland's largest fuel company, lowering its retail margin for diesel to nearly zero, it does not plan to reduce its refinery margin, indicating persistent pressure on fuel prices.

The wholesale prices for liquid fuels continue to rise, which largely impacts retail pricing. Currently, Orlen charges 6565 zł per cubic meter of Ekodiesel and 5548 zł for unleaded gasoline Eurosuper 95 in the wholesale market. Over the past week, the price of diesel has increased by nearly 6% and gasoline by over 7%. These increases are expected to significantly affect retail fuel prices, leaving drivers to bear the brunt of these elevated costs.

As fuel prices climb, this could have broader implications for the Polish economy, especially for consumer spending and inflation. Rising fuel costs may drive transportation and logistics expenses upward, contributing to higher costs of goods and services. The government may need to consider measures to mitigate the impact on consumers, as sustained high fuel prices can lead to public discontent and calls for intervention in the energy market.
