Arrested for killing a real estate agent from Rio Grande do Sul in SC used a false name after becoming a fugitive for homicide in SP

A suspect in the murder of a real estate agent in Santa Catarina was arrested while using a false identity and was previously a fugitive for another homicide in São Paulo.

Matheus Vinícius Silveira Leite, a 27-year-old man, was arrested in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, for the murder of real estate agent Luciani Aparecida Estivalet Freitas. Authorities reported that he was using the false name 'John Ricce' at the time of his arrest, as he had become a fugitive after being implicated in the homicide of a bakery owner in São Paulo in 2022. Despite his efforts to conceal his identity, investigators were unable to find any false documents linked to this alias.

The investigation revealed that Leite had known both of the homicide victims. In Florianópolis, he lived neighbor to Luciani, and in São Paulo, he had worked as a security guard for the bakery owned by João Batista Vieira, who was murdered in Laranjal Paulista. The connection to the murder of Luciani was uncovered through purchases made using her identification numbers, which led the police to Leite's involvement. Additionally, two other accomplices have been identified in Luciani's murder.

This case raises questions about the effectiveness of fugitive management and the connections between different crimes across states. It highlights the serious threats posed by individuals who evade the law multiple times, and the necessity for improved inter-state communication and collaboration in police investigations to prevent further tragedies that arise from such fugitives operating in society.
