'Sar Ke Chunar Teri' - CBFC's First Reaction, Said: We Are Dragged Unnecessarily
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clarified its position regarding the controversial song 'Sar Ke Chunar Teri' from the Kannada film 'KD: The Devil', emphasizing that it had no involvement in the song's certification and that digital content is not certified by them.
The Kannada film 'KD: The Devil' has come under legal scrutiny even before its release, primarily due to its song 'Sar Ke Chunar Teri Sar Ke'. The government has imposed a ban on the song over offensive lyrics, which has sparked significant controversy. In light of this, questions arose about the role of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), leading to the board's clarification regarding the matter.
CBFC Chairperson Prasoon Joshi addressed the media, stating, "It is explicitly important to clarify that CBFC did not receive any application for the certification of the song 'Sar Ke Chunar Teri Sar Ke' from the film 'KD: The Devil'." He noted that there is often confusion about digital content, which is not certified by the CBFC, and the board often finds itself dragged into disputes that have no relevance to its procedures.
This incident highlights the challenges and responsibilities that arise in the realm of film censorship, especially regarding digital platforms. Joshi's comments assert that the board operates responsibly and seeks to distance itself from controversies that arise from digital content not under its jurisdiction. The ongoing discourse surrounding censorship reflects broader societal debates over artistic expression and regulatory frameworks in India.
