The largest highway contract may face complications. Objections have also been raised in the second competition for the Turany – Hubová section

Complications arise in the awarding of the Turany – Hubová highway construction contract due to new objections against the tender conditions.

The construction of the key D1 highway section between Turany and Hubová in Slovakia is facing delays as the highways authority is in the process of selecting contractors for the project. This follows a previous directive from the head of the Public Procurement Office to cancel the initial tender, highlighting ongoing issues within the highway construction process. The latest objections have been filed against the conditions of the new tender, adding another layer of complexity to the already troubled project.

The D1 highway, which stretches between Bratislava and Košice, has yet to see construction begin on this particular section, marking it as a significant bottleneck in the overall project. Constructors have raised concerns about the conditions set forth in the competition, with two new objections recently registered on the Public Procurement Office’s portal. This extended delay is particularly concerning as only the bypass around Ružomberok remains to be completed, which is expected to open to drivers this spring. Therefore, the Turany section becomes increasingly crucial for traffic flow and connectivity within the region.

As estimates suggest that the design and construction of this 13.5-kilometer section will require significant resources and time, the complications present serious implications for the completion timeline of the entire D1 highway. If issues continue to arise, it could result in extended construction periods, impacting local transportation, economic development in the region, and the broader project delivery, which is vital for easing traffic within Slovakia.
