200 alarms in Warsaw. The Deputy Mayor of the capital on the details of the problem
Warsaw schools and kindergartens were hit by a wave of bomb threat emails, leading to widespread evacuations and heightened security measures, though no real threats have been confirmed.
On Wednesday, March 18, numerous schools and kindergartens in Warsaw received emails claiming explosives had been planted on their premises. According to Andrzej Opala, the spokesperson for the Praga-Południe district office, ten kindergartens and three primary schools reported such threats. As the situation unfolded, the "Super Express" reported that similar messages were recorded in 30 different locations across the capital by 8:30 AM. The Deputy Mayor of Warsaw, Renata Kaznowska, later updated the public, stating that there were around 200 alarms throughout the city.
The bomb threats affected multiple districts, including Bielany, Targówek, and Rembertów. In response to the alarming emails, several educational institutions opted to evacuate students and teachers. The authorities initiated thorough checks for any explosives, while some schools decided to ask parents to pick up their children as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, reports indicate that there have been no confirmed real threats, as noted by local news outlets. Additionally, the portal haloursynow.pl mentioned that prospective English exams were interrupted at one school due to the potential danger.
The occurrence of false bomb threats has not only disrupted the daily routine in Warsaw but has also affected other Polish cities such as Poznań and Lublin, highlighting a broader issue regarding the safety and security of educational institutions in the country. The incident raises concerns about the impact of such threats on students' psychological well-being and the strain placed on emergency services, emphasizing the need for effective measures to address such alarming occurrences in the future.
