A jet ski was severely damaged after being hit by a 'pirate boat' in Balneário Camboriú, prompting an investigation and highlighting the dangers of watercraft interactions.
In a worrying incident in Balneário Camboriú, Brazil, a 'pirate boat' struck a jet ski that was being operated by a couple, leading to significant damage to the watercraft and raising concerns about safety on the water. Photos released by the rental company exhibit a broken hull and a torn life vest belonging to the pilot, who described the moment as one where he felt he could have died. The accident occurred while the couple was kissing on the jet ski, and it was captured on a camera mounted on the boat and also witnessed by beachgoers trying to alert the larger vessel just before the collision.
The jet ski, manufactured in 2025 and measuring approximately 3.45 meters in length and 1.25 meters in width, is designed to accommodate up to three people and carry a maximum weight of 272 kilograms. Despite the jet ski suffering extensive damage, the 'pirate boat' reportedly did not sustain any injuries or damages in the collision. The rental company has filed a police report regarding the incident and advised the pilot to do the same, emphasizing the need for accountability in such maritime incidents.
This incident reflects broader issues of safety and responsibility among watercraft operators in crowded tourist areas like Balneário Camboriú, where recreational boating is prevalent.
