Kaldvee and Lill are set to defend the Estonian championship title
Curling champions Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill will defend their title at the Estonian mixed pair curling championships starting Thursday.
Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill, who have previously won the Estonian championship title nine times, are preparing to defend their title in the upcoming mixed pair curling championships at Tondiraba Ice Hall. The competition set to begin on Thursday features a total of seven pairs, showcasing a mix of experienced players alongside a new generation of young curlers.
According to Liisa Turmann, the secretary-general of the Estonian Curling Association, this year's championships are significant as they provide an opportunity for young players to compete at a high level, demonstrating that Estonian junior curlers have reached a competitive standard against more seasoned athletes. The inclusion of these younger pairs highlights the growth and interest in the sport within Estonia.
The experienced competitors in this year's tournament include Margit Peebo with Margus Tubalkain, Ingrid Novikova with Andres Jakobson, and Kai Tomingas with Erkki Lill, all of whom will challenge Kaldvee and Lill for the championship title. This mix of youth and experience is expected to create an exciting atmosphere as teams vie for the title, illustrating the broadening talent pool in Estonian curling.
