A tourist filed a lawsuit against a restaurant for spicy food, seeking compensation of 9.2 million INR

A tourist has filed a lawsuit against a New York restaurant claiming he fell ill after consuming overly spicy salsa, demanding compensation of 9.2 million INR.

An American tourist, Faisal Manj from Germany, has taken legal action against a taco restaurant named Los Tacos No. 1 located in Times Square, New York, arguing that he suffered illness due to excessively spicy salsa served to him without any adequate warning. Two years after the incident, he is pursuing a significant compensation amount of 100,000 USD, which translates to approximately 9.2 million INR.

According to reports, the basis of his complaint highlights his assertion that the restaurant failed to inform him about the dangerous level of spiciness in the green salsa provided with his meal. He contends that the extreme heat of the salsa was unreasonably high and that such lack of warning caused him severe discomfort and health issues, warranting legal recourse for damages.

Faisal, who is both an engineer and a short-term law student, filed the lawsuit in August 2024, emphasizing the need for restaurants to clearly communicate spice levels to diners. Despite his claims, it is noted that he has lost the lawsuit, suggesting potential challenges in substantiating his case in court and raising discussions about food safety standards and consumer rights in the restaurant industry.
