Americans concerned over AI amid cost-of-living crisis – poll
Polling data reveals that Americans are increasingly anxious about artificial intelligence exacerbating job losses during a cost-of-living crisis.
Recent polling data from Blue Rose Research indicates that Americans are growing increasingly concerned about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on their livelihoods, particularly amid rising costs of living. The survey, which included 2,716 respondents, discovered that 61% believe their lives have become less affordable in the past year, while only 25% express confidence in their financial futures. A striking 64% feel that the economic system is benefitting only the elite, highlighting a sense of injustice in the economic landscape.
The anxiety surrounding AI is notable, as it has become the primary concern for many, outpacing other issues over the past year. Approximately 57% of respondents indicated that AI is advancing at an alarming rate, while 79% believe that the government lacks adequate strategies to protect workers from potential job losses. This sentiment reflects a growing fear that the rapid development of AI technologies could destabilize traditional employment pathways for current and future generations.
Moreover, public worry extends beyond personal job security; nearly 79% fear that young individuals entering the workforce will encounter fewer job opportunities due to AI advancements. This collective concern paints a picture of a society grappling with the intersection of technological progression and economic hardship, spurring calls for government intervention to safeguard employment and ensure equitable economic opportunities for all citizens.
