Operation investigates alleged fraud in the Tocantins Military Police competition

A police operation has uncovered alleged fraud involving an organized crime group in the 2025 Military Police competition in Tocantins, Brazil.

The Civil Police is executing search and seizure warrants against an alleged criminal organization involved in defrauding the Military Police competition held in June 2025 in Tocantins. Reports indicate that candidates may have paid as much as R$50,000 for others to take the tests on their behalf. The investigation, referred to as Operation Última Etapa, was carried out across several Brazilian states including Pernambuco, Paraíba, Pará, and Goiás.

On Wednesday morning, law enforcement executed eight preventive arrest warrants and nine home search and seizure warrants, all authorized by the 1st Regional Court of Guarantees in Palmas. The investigation was initiated after irregularities were detected by the Competition Organizing Committee, which promptly reported the findings to the Civil Police of Tocantins. Furthermore, the Military Police stated that the allegations pertain to individual actions, assuring that there is no overall compromise of the examination's integrity.

This incident raises pressing concerns regarding the integrity of public service examinations in Brazil, particularly in relation to how criminal organizations might exploit systemic vulnerabilities. It emphasizes the need for stronger oversight measures and transparency in the processes involved in conducting recruitments for critical public service roles such as policing.
