One-way Traffic at Keflavik Airport

Construction has begun on a new one-way traffic system to improve safety and traffic flow near Keflavik International Airport.

A new one-way traffic system is being implemented on the road connecting Keflavik International Airport with its long-term parking areas, in an effort to enhance safety for travelers and improve traffic flow. The construction, which started recently, involves a section of road north of the Leif Eiriksson terminal that will now operate as one-way. This change is part of ongoing renovations planned for the airport's access routes.

The new traffic rules will apply to the section of the road east of the long-term parking lot P3 exit, allowing vehicles coming from this area to turn onto the main road in both directions. However, those exiting from the parking area P2, located slightly further east, will only be able to turn eastwards onto the main road, directing them north from the airport complex via a newly constructed road segment. This initiative is said to provide a safer traveling experience for the public.

These changes are a part of a broader plan to facilitate better access to the airport and are expected to contribute positively to the management of traffic around the airport as it continues to see increased passenger flow in coming years. Isavia, the operator of Keflavik Airport, emphasizes that the infrastructure improvements will ultimately enhance operational efficiency and safety for all airport users.
