PAN and PRI Advance Votes Against Plan B; MC Will Consider It

The PAN and PRI parties in Mexico announced their intention to vote against the electoral reform plan proposed by the Executive, while Movimiento Ciudadano has yet to make a decision.

In Mexico, the PAN and PRI political parties have indicated that they will vote against the government's Plan B for electoral reform, which was sent to the Senate recently. Federico Döring, vice-coordinator of PAN in the Chamber of Deputies, criticized the plan for not addressing the alleged connections between local politicians and organized crime, claiming that it allows corruption to flourish under the guise of electoral processes.

Döring stressed the importance of combating the alleged agreements between the Lopez Obrador administration and organized crime, asserting that the plan fails to impose necessary safeguards against illicit funding in electoral campaigns. He referenced the dangers of politicians from the ruling party, Morena, compromising their integrity and the safety of their jurisdictions by engaging with criminal organizations, leading to a distorted political landscape where electoral integrity is at stake.

Manuel Añorve, the Senate coordinator for the PRI, echoed similar sentiments by characterizing the proposed electoral reform as poorly disguised austerity measures, lacking in genuine accountability or effectiveness. His remarks reflect a broader concern among opposition parties regarding the ramifications of the government's approach to electoral reform, as they believe it undermines democratic principles and the transparency essential for credible elections in Mexico.
