A problem in the signaling systems causes "significant delays" in the AVE trains entering and leaving Madrid

High-speed trains to and from Madrid are facing significant delays due to a signaling system issue, as reported by Adif.

High-speed trains originating from or destined for Madrid are experiencing significant delays on Wednesday due to a malfunction in the signaling systems, as reported by Adif via social media early in the morning. The situation has caused disruptions in train schedules, prompting passenger frustrations and cancellations.

Around an hour after the initial report, Adif stated that they are in the process of progressively restoring the control and traffic management systems, with train services starting to resume from Puerta de Atocha. However, the residual impact of the malfunction still affects train schedules, leading to longer wait times for passengers. Renfe has informed its customers of the situation, indicating that services are expected to normalize gradually as repairs are completed.

Passengers have reported delays of an hour or more for their high-speed train departures and arrivals to Madrid, with some trains reportedly stationary at the station for over 50 minutes. This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the railway system in managing disruptions and maintaining service reliability, especially in critical transport hubs like Madrid.
