Chinese flop in tire test. Better not to put these summer tires on Superb

A German automobile club tested 15 summer tires and found Pirelli Cinturato C3 as the top performer, while highlighting poor performance from some cheaper Chinese brands.

The German automobile club AvD conducted a test on 15 types of summer tires sized 215/55 R17 and revealed that the Pirelli Cinturato C3 outperformed all competitors in both dry and wet conditions. This test aims to inform consumers about tire safety and performance, particularly for popular vehicles like the VW Passat and Škoda Superb, which commonly use this tire size. In a market crowded with options, the results underscore the importance of quality over cost, especially regarding crucial safety features.

The AvD test contrasts with a previous tire assessment by ADAC, another well-known German automobile club. ADAC's test focused on different tire dimensions suitable for models like Škoda Yeti and Audi A4. In a significant departure from ADAC's findings, AvD's study represents the performance of tires suited for top-selling managerial cars, also considering economical and ecological factors, such as wear rate and their impact on fuel consumption.

The testing utilized the VW T-Roc, which is among the best-selling Volkswagen models in Europe. Evaluating performance in both dry and wet conditions, AvD's collaborative assessment with Tempotire aimed to provide car owners valuable insights, especially for those considering cost-effective options that may compromise safety. The disappointing results from cheaper tires, especially those from Chinese manufacturers, indicate a need for drivers to be cautious about their tire choices to ensure optimum vehicle performance and safety.
