On May 18, the Samsung Electronics labor union announced that 93.1% of its members voted in favor of strike action during a recent ballot. This overwhelming support has paved the way for a general strike planned for May. The unions, including the Samsung Electronics branch union, the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union, and the Samsung Electronics Union for Solidarity, have validated their legal right to strike with a participation rate of 73.5% from about 90,000 eligible members, wherein over 66,000 members cast their votes supporting the strike.
