Xi Jinping Praises Hwangnam Bread, Made with Boeun Red Beans... 25 tons of Boeun Red Beans for Hwangnam Bread Filling
Hwangnam Bread, a popular Korean delicacy, is set to incorporate 25 tons of red beans from Boeun, following praise from Chinese President Xi Jinping during a recent summit.
During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held last October in Gyeongju, South Korea, Chinese President Xi Jinping praised Hwangnam Bread, leading to a growing popularity of this traditional snack. South Korean President Lee Jae-myung had presented the bread to Xi, who later expressed gratitude after enjoying it, marking a significant moment in cultural exchange. This recognition has positioned Hwangnam Bread as a representative product of K-food, especially appealing to Chinese tourists.
In a recent development, Boeun County has formed a partnership with the iconic Hwangnam Bread to boost local red bean production, essential for the bread's filling. This agreement, signed on the 18th, allows for a more stable production and supply of local red beans, with Boeun's farmers committing to provide 25 tons of red beans, grown on 20 hectares of land, specifically for Hwangnam Bread. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance the quality of red beans available for processing while assuring farmers of a reliable market for their crops.
Choi Joo-hyun, a 71-year-old farmer from Boeun, played a vital role in facilitating this partnership and has already begun supplying red beans to Hwangnam Bread with positive feedback. Hwangnam Bread, established in 1939 and known for its use of domestic red beans, anticipates this partnership will further secure high-quality local ingredients, thus reinforcing its position as a leading traditional food company. Boeun County’s mayor expressed pride in showcasing Boeun's red beans in such a renowned product, hoping to enhance local farmers' income while also promoting sustainable development in the traditional food industry.
