Nwobodo denies wife’s involvement in Enugu property demolition
Former Anambra governor Jim Nwobodo has denied allegations that his wife was involved in the demolition of a pastor's property in Enugu.
Former governor of the old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo, has publicly denied accusations that his wife, Pat Nwobodo, played any role in the demolition of a building owned by Pastor Basil Ogbuanu. This controversy arose from Ogbuanu's claim that Mrs. Nwobodo had orchestrated the demolition of his property on Patson Estate, located in Independence Layout, Enugu. Nwobodo clarified that the demolition was prompted by Ogbuanu's unauthorized construction activities which did not adhere to the estate's regulations, highlighting issues of compliance as central to the dispute.
During a recent statement, Nwobodo provided details about the incident that escalated on January 16, 2026, when his wife, accompanied by a landscape architect and a police orderly, visited the estate for an inspection. He recounted that the group faced hostility when they attempted to leave as the estate gates were unexpectedly locked. This lockdown led to a confrontational situation where the accompanying police officer was reportedly assaulted, which further complicated the matter and raised concerns about security at the site.
Nwobodo argued that the situation was misinterpreted and turned into a personal attack against his wife. He suggested that the allegations against her were unfounded and stemmed from a straightforward dispute over illegal building practices. This incident not only reflects on issues of property rights and regulatory compliance in Nigeria but also highlights the broader implications of political figures dealing with local governance and community relations.
