PM Modi is speaking in the Rajya Sabha, farewell being given to members completing their term
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha as members completing their terms from April to July were bid farewell.
Both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings are underway, with the Lok Sabha currently in the question hour. In the Rajya Sabha, a farewell ceremony is being held for members whose terms are concluding between April and July, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi present. During this session, no question hour or zero hour will take place, allowing for a focused farewell to the members.
Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, C.P. Radhakrishnan, announced that 59 members from 25 states, including former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge, are completing their terms. Prime Minister Modi remarked that 37 members are concluding their terms today, noting that some members would finish their tenure when the house is not in session. He emphasized the ongoing nature of politics, stating that there is 'no full stop' in political careers, indicating the cyclical nature of political service in the country.
This farewell underscores the transition within the Rajya Sabha and the continuity of political service as new members will replace those stepping down. The significance of this event lies in the acknowledgment of the contributions of outgoing members and the opportunity for incoming members to bring fresh perspectives to the house. Such ceremonies are vital for maintaining the dignity of legislative processes in India.
