“Learning the Spirit of Yi Sun-sin through Horseback Riding”... Asan City Launches ‘Public Horseback Riding Program’

Asan City is launching a ‘Public Horseback Riding Program’ that combines the spirit of historical figure Yi Sun-sin with modern recreational horseback riding.

Asan City, known as the hometown of the legendary Admiral Yi Sun-sin, is officially launching a ‘Public Horseback Riding Program’ aimed at instilling the enduring spirit of the admiral in the community, particularly among the youth. The program will operate under two main pillars: ‘Horseback Riding for Fostering the Spirit of Chungmu’ and ‘Rehabilitation Horseback Riding,’ with an investment of 66 million won entirely funded by the city, making it accessible to citizens without any costs. It is designed to educate young participants on the historical values and spirit of compassion and service associated with Yi Sun-sin while providing rehabilitation opportunities for the disabled.

The ‘Horseback Riding for Fostering the Spirit of Chungmu’ initiative will run for three days, from the 23rd to the 25th of this month, targeting 100 students from local elementary, middle, and high schools. Participants will first engage in educational sessions on the life, leadership, and patriotism of Admiral Yi Sun-sin at the Chungmu Education Center, before taking part in practical horseback riding lessons that include basic riding education, bonding activities with horses, and competitive experiences. Schools involved include those named after Yi Sun-sin, further enhancing the historical connection of the program.

The second aspect, ‘Rehabilitation Horseback Riding,’ offers sessions to support underprivileged groups, particularly children with disabilities. This component is expected to improve their balance and muscle strength, as well as provide psychological stability, encouraging greater self-reliance and social participation. The program includes a series of ten classes for 40 preschool children, with the city covering all expenses amounting to approximately 620,000 won per participant, aiming to provide meaningful engagement and development opportunities for these children in a supportive environment.
