Fire Near Wakayama's Downtown 'Arochi' Burns 5 Buildings, One Injured from Smoke Inhalation
A fire near the Arochi entertainment district in Wakayama burned five buildings, resulting in one person suffering smoke inhalation injuries.
In the early hours of December 18, a fire broke out near the Arochi district in Wakayama City, reportedly emanating from a residence and jewelry store owned by a 78-year-old man. The blaze completely consumed the two-story wooden business and residence covering approximately 120 square meters. Fire spread to four neighboring buildings, causing significant damage to the area which is characterized by a mix of residences and commercial establishments.
According to the Wakayama East Police Department, firefighters managed to contain the flames approximately two hours after the initial outbreak. The ownerβs wife, aged 80, was taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke but her condition is not life-threatening.
