Iranian missile strike in central Israel kills two people
Missiles striking central Israel have resulted in two fatalities amid ongoing regional conflict, raising the death toll to fourteen.
Authorities reported that missiles struck several locations in central Israel overnight, with air raid sirens sounding throughout the region. The latest fatalities increase the casualty count to 14 since the beginning of missile attacks linked to the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict that escalated at the end of last month. Police spokesperson Dean Elsdunne indicated that initial assessments pointed to a cluster bomb hitting a residential building in Ramat Gan, a city adjacent to Tel Aviv.
Cluster munitions, which both Iran and Israel have previously accused each other of using, detonate in mid-air and scatter smaller bombs over a large area. The bomb that hit the Ramat Gan house collapsed the roof, causing a tragic incident for an elderly couple who were in their room when the explosion occurred. Unfortunately, the couple did not make it to a safe room in time when the warning siren sounded, contributing to this unfortunate loss of life, according to D. Elsdunne.
Local resident Omer, who provided only his first name, shared his harrowing experience of hearing a series of explosions, emphasizing that it was not just a single strike but rather a barrage of missiles. This incident underscores the heightened tensions and violence in the region, further complicating the already volatile situation as hostilities continue between Iran-backed forces and Israel.
