The Riigikogu committee replaces the member of the RMK council from the Social Democrats
The Riigikogu Environment Committee has proposed removing a member from the RMK council, Anti Allas, due to his criticism of the organization, replacing him with Diana Ingerainen.
The Riigikogu's Environment Committee in Estonia has proposed the removal of Anti Allas, a member of the RMK council from the Social Democratic Party (SDE), over his comments regarding staffing cuts and expenditures. Following a series of critical Facebook posts about the RMK's spending on recognition events that amounted to €130,000, Allas expressed concern that his removal was a result of becoming politically inconvenient for the coalition. His replacement will be Diana Ingerainen from the Estonia 200 party, who is a general practitioner and serves as a member of the Riigikogu.
Allas believes that his exclusion from the RMK council is directly linked to his outspoken views on the government's handling of forestry management-related workforce reductions and expenditure practices. The timing of his removal raises questions about the political dynamics within the ruling coalition, particularly as it appears to be a response to heightened scrutiny of public spending amid ongoing environmental concerns.
Postimees, an Estonian newspaper, highlighted the political implications of this decision, suggesting that Allas's removal should have occurred sooner when the Reform Party and Estonia 200 ousted SDE from the governing coalition a year ago. However, the coalition at that time did not act to remove him, leaving many speculating about the unspoken political motives behind this sudden decision now.
