Fishermen of Araruama Lagoon receive professional qualification courses

Over 60 fishermen from Araruama Lagoon gathered for the launch of a new training module aimed at professional development in their traditional territories.

This month, over 60 fishermen from the Araruama Lagoon came together in São Pedro da Aldeia to launch a new module of the social project "Fishing Traditions and Sharing Knowledge." Sponsored by Prolagos and the Aegea Institute, the initiative aims to train fishermen to work in their traditional territories, focusing on topics that bridge local culture with tourism, economy, and public transport. Participants will receive qualifications as Auxiliary Deck Sailors (MAC) and Professional Fishermen (POP). The event took place at the headquarters of the Association of Artisan Fishermen and Sentinels of the Araruama Lagoon (APASLA), located at Praia da Pitória. This training represents a significant investment in the local community, aiming to enhance the fishermen's skills and ensure safe operation of their vessels. Preparing these individuals for professional roles not only helps preserve their cultural heritage but also facilitates sustainable economic development in the region. The partnership with an accredited company by the Ports Authority has been emphasized as vital for the training's credibility, ensuring participants understand the technical and safety aspects of boat operation. This project reinforces the importance of supporting traditional fishermen in adapting to modern economic demands while maintaining their unique cultural practices.
