(VIDEO) Winds 'make their presence felt' in CDMX: Trees knocked down and a billboard blown away on Periférico Sur
Intense rain and strong winds caused trees to fall and a billboard to be blown onto the elevated highway in Tlalpan, affecting traffic in Mexico City.
On March 17th, intense rainfall and strong winds were reported in Mexico City, leading to significant disruptions in Tlalpan. Trees were uprooted, with several falling into streets, while a billboard was dislodged and blown onto the Segundo Piso of Periférico, contributing to traffic delays in the area. Emergency services, including the Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC), were deployed to manage the aftermath of the storm and ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety.
In response to the chaos, the SSC implemented traffic cuts on both Periférico Sur and the Picacho Ajusco highway to address the situation and prevent further accidents. Police officers were involved in securing the scene, and they took measures to safely detach the billboard that had been blown onto the elevated roadway, ensuring it was removed without causing additional hazards.
Moreover, the Heroico Cuerpo de Bomberos reported the occurrence of fallen trees in several neighborhoods across various districts, including Benito Juárez, Iztapalapa, Venustiano Carranza, and Tlalpan, complicating mobility throughout Mexico City. The authorities are assessing the situation and providing assistance to affected residents as they work toward restoring normalcy following the storm's impact.
