BHP and Woodside appoint new CEOs in major mining shake-up
Brandon Craig has been appointed CEO of BHP, while Elizabeth Westcott has been named CEO of Woodside Energy, signaling significant leadership changes in Australia’s major mining and energy companies.
Brandon Craig will succeed Mike Henry as the CEO of BHP, the world's largest mining company, starting from July. Craig, who has been with BHP since 1999 and most recently served as President Americas, will be responsible for leading the company’s growth strategy focused on essential commodities like copper and lithium. Mike Henry had held the CEO position since 2020, and his departure comes amid a broader restructuring within the company.
In a parallel move, Woodside Energy has appointed Elizabeth Westcott as its new CEO and managing director. Westcott's appointment comes as Woodside continues to solidify its status as Australia's largest energy producer. The changes in leadership at both companies are seen as a response to market dynamics and evolving strategies focusing on sustainable and future-oriented projects within the mining and energy sectors.
Both newly appointed CEOs will earn base salaries exceeding one million dollars annually, complemented by performance-related bonuses, reflecting the high stakes and competitive nature of the mining and energy industries in Australia. The shake-up at BHP and Woodside Energy underscores a significant transition in leadership as both firms aim to navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing global market and push towards innovations in their respective sectors.
