Warning about the medical coverage of thousands of monotributistas
Health Minister Mario Lugones addressed concerns regarding inadequate medical coverage for monotributistas during a meeting with union leaders.
Health Minister Mario Lugones met with commercial union leader Armando Cavalieri and the head of the Social Security for Employees of Commerce and Civil Activities (OSECAC) to discuss ongoing issues within the healthcare system. The meeting highlighted the significant funding gap between contributions made by monotributistas and the rising costs of healthcare services. Cavalieri's report indicated that the Mandatory Medical Program (PMO) costs have drastically increased, surpassing $100,000 per month for adults and reaching between $160,000 and $170,000 for seniors. In stark contrast, monotributistas are only contributing $22,000 monthly to the healthcare system.
The report emphasizes the inadequacy of these contributions, suggesting that they fail to cover even basic medical consultations. This situation raises serious concerns about the sustainability of healthcare coverage for a significant portion of the population who rely on the monotributo tax scheme. The Health Ministry confirmed the meeting but refrained from commenting on the specifics discussed, leaving the exact outcomes and governmental responses uncertain. With a growing number of monotributistas facing the threat of compromised healthcare services, this discussion could prompt future reforms aimed at addressing these financial discrepancies within the healthcare system.
