Injection of union resources into the Post Office may be postponed until 2027, says management minister

The Brazilian government is likely to delay injecting funds into the ailing postal service, Correios, until at least 2027, according to Management Minister Esther Dweck.

In a recent statement, Esther Dweck, Brazil's Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, announced that the federal government is not expected to provide financial aid to the Correios postal service this year. This comes as the state-owned company is undergoing a significant restructuring in response to a financial crisis. The potential injection of funds was initially outlined in a contractual agreement between the postal service and the banks that extended a loan to the enterprise last year, allowing for support as late as 2027.

Dweck elaborated that the ongoing evaluations by Correios currently focus on securing a new loan. Reports suggest that the planned amount for this new borrowing would be reduced from the originally projected R$ 8 billion, indicating a cautious approach to fiscal management amid ongoing financial challenges. Despite the delay in federal funding for 2023, Dweck indicated that the possibility of a union injection cannot be completely ruled out if this new loan is successfully approved within the year.

This situation raises concerns about the future viability of Correios, particularly given its critical role in national logistics and communication. The postponement of the funding further complicates the company's attempts to stabilize its operations during financial hardships, emphasizing the importance of strong management strategies and effective negotiations with banking partners.
