Calgary city council approves $609M to cover feeder main, water system upgrades
Calgary city council has approved a budget increase of over $609 million for essential upgrades to the city's water infrastructure due to ongoing repairs.
Calgary's city council has unanimously approved a significant budget increase of $609.5 million aimed at upgrading and repairing the cityβs water infrastructure, highlighting the urgency of the situation as Calgary continues to face water restrictions due to a failing feeder main. Mayor Jeromy Farkas characterized this expenditure as an unfortunate necessity and likened the water system upgrades to other substantial megaprojects that the city has undertaken, insisting that such investments are justified given the critical nature of water infrastructure. The city administration plans to allocate $222 million of the funding to the construction of a new 22-kilometer feeder main, which is crucial for ensuring stable water distribution and supply to residents.
