IHG names new leader for Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean

IHG Hotels & Resorts has appointed Michael Hoe Knudsen as the new Managing Director for Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean following Jorge Apaez's retirement.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the appointment of Michael Hoe Knudsen as the new Managing Director for Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean (MLAC), succeeding Jorge Apaez, who has led the region for several years. Knudsen brings over 30 years of global hospitality experience, having worked in various markets including the Americas, Europe, and the Greater China region. In his new role, he aims to drive growth, enhance operations, and strengthen relationships with owners and investors.

Knudsen's career at IHG began in 1996 in New York at the InterContinental New York Barclay. He has held various leadership positions across the Americas and the Caribbean, including significant roles in operations and corporate areas. His most recent position was overseeing the Greater China region, where he managed 120 hotels and launched 45 new properties across key destinations like China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.

With a strategic vision for the MLAC region, Knudsen's appointment is seen as a critical step for IHG as they continue to expand their presence in the region and adapt to evolving market dynamics. His extensive background and experience are expected to foster innovation and collaboration within the company's operations, ultimately aiming for a more robust market stance in the competitive hospitality sector.
