‘Rot in jail’: Ford criticizes child killer being granted unescorted absences

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has condemned the decision to grant child killer Darren Scott Ray unescorted absences from prison.

Darren Scott Ray, a 65-year-old man serving a life sentence for the first-degree murder and sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy, has been granted two additional unescorted temporary absences (UTAs) into the community, a move criticized by Ontario Premier Doug Ford. The Parole Board of Canada made the decision, which allows Ray to leave prison temporarily to visit a community-based residential facility, even after he received a prior 72-hour UTA earlier this year for a similar purpose. Premier Ford expressed his outrage, stating that individuals convicted of such heinous crimes should face more severe consequences and should not be given the opportunity to reintegrate into society.
