Michal: The election of Karis as president will not be under the Reform Party
Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated that the Reform Party will not be behind the re-election of Alar Karis as president, clarifying that no candidate proposals have been made to the Social Democratic Party.
In a recent interview, Prime Minister Kristen Michal discussed the potential re-election of Alar Karis as president, declaring that the Reform Party will not support his candidacy. This statement was made during a segment called 'In the First Studio'. Michal emphasized that the Reform Party has not asked the Social Democratic Party to put forth any presidential candidates, asserting no proposals have been communicated between the two parties on this matter.
Additionally, Michal shared that a recent message from Kristo Enn Vaga to Tanel Kiik regarding possible presidential candidates was merely a discussion and not a formal proposal. The timing of the message coincided with a meeting of the parliament's elder committee where presidential elections were openly discussed. Michal stressed that there have been no requests made for the Social Democrats to nominate anyone and that the party leadership has not yet reached a decision regarding a specific candidate.
Ultimately, Michal reaffirmed his support for President Karis, implying he would be favored if he chose to run again. However, for now, the Reform Party appears to be in a position of observation without taking definitive steps towards endorsing or rejecting potential candidates, highlighting the ongoing uncertainty in Estonia's political landscape as the presidential elections approach.
