Search to continue for missing kayaker north of Adelaide
Authorities are resuming a search for a missing kayaker in the Gulf St Vincent after he failed to return home from a trip near Middle Beach.
The search efforts for a missing elderly kayaker near Middle Beach, 40 kilometers north of Adelaide, resumed as police and emergency services are committed to locating him. The man, who is in his 70s, was reported missing by his relatives after he did not return home on Tuesday evening. Concern for his safety grew when he failed to arrive back after his outing, prompting family members to contact law enforcement just before 11 PM.
Initial search operations were launched immediately by South Australian Police's Water Operations unit, supported by Polair equipped with infrared cameras and the Volunteer Marine Rescue teams. However, despite extensive searches throughout the night in the waters of the Gulf St Vincent, authorities did not succeed in locating the kayaker. The operations were suspended until dawn due to low visibility conditions that hindered the ability to search effectively, but the police have pledged to continue the effort at first light.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in the search, urging anyone who may have seen a kayak in the area to contact them. This incident highlights the potential dangers of kayaking in open waters, especially for older individuals, and raises awareness about safety measures that should be in place when engaging in such activities.
