The Spanish Government has introduced a bill to the Congress regarding the Protection and Resilience of Critical Entities, categorizing new sectors as vital for national security. This move, approved by the Council of Ministers, marks the first time urban heating, hydrogen companies, wastewater management, certain research laboratories, and specific private security firms are recognized as strategic sectors due to their critical importance. The initiative aims to support and ensure the operationality of both public and private entities managing these essential infrastructures. The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, emphasized the need for a robust framework that oversees these critical sectors to enhance Spain's overall security and resilience.
