The serial pedophile from Kaunas, R. Jakštys, seeks to break free, the prosecution asks to keep him behind bars until 2031
R. Jakštys, a serial pedophile from Kaunas, is appealing his conviction while prosecutors argue for a lengthy prison sentence.
R. Jakštys, a 27-year-old serial pedophile, is currently appealing against his conviction in a case being heard at the Kaunas District Court. During the first session this Tuesday, Jakštys's defense team sought to renew the evidence review process, but the judges ruled that it was not necessary at this stage. The prosecutor, Dovilė Augustauskaitė, presented her closing arguments, with another session scheduled for May 4, where both of Jakštys's lawyers will also deliver their closing statements.
In December 2025, Jakštys was sentenced to a combined prison term of 4 years and 3 months for sexual offenses against minors. The prosecution is advocating for an extended sentence of 5 years and 6 months, arguing that it should be compounded with his previous crimes. Meanwhile, the defense has requested lighter sentencing alternatives, arguing against incarceration.
Jakštys faces serious charges involving the corruption of three minors under the age of 16, and he was convicted for three separate criminal incidents. His case is particularly sensitive as it involves a former youth mentor, highlighting broader issues regarding the systemic response to child protection and the legal system's treatment of sexual offenders in Lithuania.
