A man suspected of fatally stabbing his ex-mother-in-law in Chapada dos Guimarães has been arrested in Rio de Janeiro.
The suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested in a beach area in Rio de Janeiro for the stabbing murder of his ex-mother-in-law, Ana Paula Lima Carvalho, aged 48. The crime occurred on January 11 in Chapada dos Guimarães, which is approximately 65 kilometers from Cuiabá, Brazil. Police reports indicate that the suspect was found following a tip-off regarding his whereabouts and was already under a preventive arrest warrant for aggravated homicide in the context of femicide.
The arrest was made possible through investigative work performed by the State Police of Mato Grosso, specifically the Organized Crime Combat Management (GCCO) and the Organized Crime Repression Police Station (Draco), with assistance from local authorities in Chapada dos Guimarães. He was taken into custody in the Sepetiba neighborhood, just 500 meters from the beach, indicating that he was trying to evade law enforcement by fleeing to a tourist area.
Following his arrest, the suspect was processed for legal proceedings and remains in custody awaiting transfer to Mato Grosso. This case highlights ongoing issues surrounding domestic violence and femicide in Brazil, prompting discussions on the need for enhanced preventative measures and legal protections for victims of such crimes.
