Pdl Zuncheddu. Fi proposes a monthly allowance for victims of miscarriages of justice

Forza Italia proposes a monthly allowance for victims of judicial errors, inspired by Beniamino Zuncheddu, who was wrongfully imprisoned for 33 years.

The proposed law by Forza Italia is dedicated to Beniamino Zuncheddu, a Sardinian pastor who endured 33 years in prison due to a judicial error, and aims to provide financial support to victims of injustice. The legislation suggests a monthly allowance equal to double the social allowance, paid for a duration that is at least twice the time spent in unjust custody. This initiative seeks to ensure that those exonerated after legal proceedings receive economic support during a potentially lengthy process of restitution claims for damages.

According to Antonio Tajani, Vice-Premier and secretary of Forza Italia, this proposal is a necessary measure to provide immediate financial aid to victims of wrongful detention. The allowance would commence from the moment of acquittal and continue until the court delivers a ruling on damage compensation, which can take years. Tajani emphasizes that Beniamino Zuncheddu embodies the most glaring miscarriage of justice in Italy's history, thereby underscoring the need for systemic changes in how victims of judicial errors are treated.

With approximately 30,000 individuals affected by wrongful imprisonments and judicial mistakes, Forza Italia's proposal seeks to address a significant gap in protective measures for such victims. The introduction of this monthly allowance is intended to restore dignity and support for those who have suffered extensively due to the failures of the judicial system. The proposal reflects a growing acknowledgment of the need to safeguard the rights and welfare of individuals wronged by their legal proceedings, promoting a fairer system in Italy.
