Venezuelan footballer José David Contreras has been named in the national squad for upcoming friendlies in the FIFA Series 2026.
The Venezuelan national football team announced on Tuesday its lineup for the upcoming FIFA Series 2026 international friendlies, featuring notable inclusion of players like defender Jon Aramburu, midfielder Telasco Segovia, and historical top scorer Salomón Rondón. Alongside José David Contreras, who plays as a goalkeeper for Barcelona SC, the 28-man squad includes other talents such as Nahuel Ferraresi and Cristian Cásseres, showcasing the depth of Venezuelan football talent as they prepare for competition.
The team has scheduled to face Trinidad and Tobago as well as Uzbekistan on March 27 and 30 respectively. These matches are significant as they will serve as preparation for Venezuela ahead of major international tournaments. The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) has noted that some players, including Daniel Pereira and Yangel Herrera, are absent due to injuries, while Ender Echenique is dealing with visa issues, indicating the challenges team management faces while preparing a robust squad.
Venezuelan coach Oswaldo Vizcarrondo provided insight during a pre-match press conference, emphasizing the importance of these matches to build chemistry among players and to gauge their readiness for international competition. The friendly matches will be crucial not only for player evaluation but also for the team's overall strategy as they look forward to participating in the FIFA Series and striving for improved performance in international stages.
