To Vima at OPA: 'Truths About Lies' - Training Students to Recognize Fake News
A workshop aimed at helping students at the Athens University of Economics and Business (OPA) discern between real news and misinformation was held by To Vima and other Alter Ego media outlets on Tuesday.
To Vima and other media under Alter Ego organized a workshop on Tuesday for students at the Athens University of Economics and Business (OPA) focused on differentiating real news from misinformation. The program, titled 'Truths About Lies: Learn How to Distinguish Fake News from Real News', aims to train students in responsible news consumption to avoid the spread of false information. This initiative falls under a broader campaign by Alter Ego Media to enhance media literacy among young consumers of news.
The workshop opened with Tania Bozaninou, the editor-in-chief of To Vima, who discussed the importance of news literacy in today's information-saturated environment. She emphasized the necessity for students to critically evaluate the news before accepting it as truth or sharing it further. Bozaninou introduced the seven steps for news verification, equipping students with practical skills to navigate the modern media landscape.
Following her, Stratis Angelis, a journalist for To Vima and Mega, provided practical examples and further insights into recognizing credible news sources. The session is part of ongoing efforts by Alter Ego Media to foster responsible engagement with news among students, which is crucial in an age where misinformation spreads rapidly across various platforms.
