The Civil Defense in Juiz de Fora has conducted over 4,255 inspections following tragic floods, which resulted in 65 deaths and left nearly 9,000 people displaced.
Nearly a month after severe floods struck Juiz de Fora, the Civil Defense has reported that they completed 4,255 inspections of affected properties, with around 1,150 requests still pending. The flooding has had devastating consequences, leading to the tragic loss of 65 lives and the displacement of 8,880 individuals, alongside the destruction of over 1,000 homes in the municipality.
During a press conference held on Tuesday, the cityβs mayor, Margarida SalomΓ£o, provided an overview of the disaster's impact and detailed the ongoing response and reconstruction efforts in the community. The event saw participation from various institutions, including the Federal University of Juiz de Fora and the Municipal Chamber, highlighting a collective effort to address the aftermath of the flooding.
The municipal administration has taken steps to bolster its emergency response capabilities, increasing the number of Civil Defense professionals from 55 to 70. This enhancement aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations as they continue to manage the ongoing crisis in the region, including aid distribution and infrastructure rebuilding to support the affected populace.
