Center Party: We are growing during the Liberals' crisis
Sweden's Center Party reports a surge in new memberships, linking the increase to the Liberal Party's recent controversial decisions.
The Center Party in Sweden has noted a significant increase in membership, with around ten new members joining each week, and a remarkable 150 new members over the recent weekend. According to party secretary Hannes Hervieu, this surge is attributed to the ongoing crisis within the Liberal Party (L), particularly after they announced a shift in their position regarding potential collaboration with the Sweden Democrats (SD). Hervieu stated, 'Liberalernas sorgliga och lite märkliga besked' (The Liberals' sad and somewhat strange announcement) has prompted more individuals to engage with the Center Party.
Hervieu emphasized that the Center Party is now seen as the only liberal freedom movement in Sweden that remains steadfast in its refusal to grant any influence to the Sweden Democrats. He argues that the political landscape is changing, with public sentiment reflecting a desire for a viable alternative amidst the internal turmoil of the Liberal Party. This crisis has led to a examination of trust in Liberal Party leader Simona Mohamsson, highlighted by an extraordinary national meeting called to reassess her leadership.
Moreover, Hervieu suggests that the Liberal Party's stance on the controversial issue of deporting teenagers has also played a role in attracting new members to the Center Party. The ongoing struggle within the Liberals could signal a shift in the balance of power among Sweden’s liberal factions, potentially reshaping the political landscape and impacting future electoral results.
