Decodom is once again in debt and seeks judicial protection from creditors

Decodom, one of Slovakia's largest furniture manufacturers, is seeking court protection from creditors due to significant debts and past financial struggles exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Decodom, a prominent Slovak furniture manufacturer, is facing severe financial difficulties and has filed for judicial protection from creditors for the second time. The company, which previously employed over 1,200 workers, has slashed its workforce to 400, reflecting the financial strain it has endured. Currently, Decodom owes the state more than half a million euros in social insurance contributions, highlighting its precarious financial situation.

The application for court protection comes after a period of speculation regarding the company’s financial health, with management previously assuring that no significant layoffs were planned. However, the Nitriansky District Court has agreed to initiate restructuring proceedings at the company's request, indicating the seriousness of its financial woes. The ongoing pandemic resulted in heavy operational disruptions for the firm, forcing it to halt sales and lay off hundreds of employees during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

If the court determines that Decodom can repay at least half of its debts, as mandated by Slovak law, it may be granted restructuring protection. Should the company fail to meet this requirement, it risks entering bankruptcy, which would culminate in its potential removal from the market. This situation underscores the broader economic challenges faced by businesses in Slovakia during the ongoing recovery from the pandemic's impact.
