Lula cancels launch event for ECA Digital to review decree
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva canceled the launch event for the ECA Digital initiative to gain better understanding of a decree he was supposed to sign.
Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has postponed the launch of ECA Digital, initially planned to gather around 700 guests. The cancellation stemmed from Lula's need to thoroughly understand the details of a decree that was to be signed during the event. According to João Brandt, the Secretary of Digital Policies, the decree had not yet been discussed in detail with the president, which led to the decision to suspend the ceremony.
The event, originally scheduled for earlier, was rescheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday (18) at the Palácio do Planalto. Despite the decree having been developed collaboratively and deemed non-controversial among ministers, President Lula requested an additional 24 hours for a detailed technical analysis before proceeding. Brandt indicated that the consensus among officials allowed for previous advancement, but the President felt it necessary to familiarize himself with the specifics of the decisions being made.
This move reflects Lula's cautious approach to governance, ensuring that he is well-informed before endorsing policies that could have significant implications. The ECA Digital initiative itself is part of Brazil's broader strategy to enhance digital policies, but the recent developments suggest a deliberate prioritization of thorough internal review over public presentation.
