Operation arrests suspects of holding family hostage during robbery in Niterói

On Tuesday, a police operation resulted in the arrests of four men in Niterói, Brazil, who are suspected of being part of a gang that invaded a home and held a family hostage for over three hours. The incident occurred in the neighborhood of Cafubá on August 13, 2025, when armed criminals invaded the residence and restrained the residents with plastic cuffs during the ordeal.
The victims endured constant threats from the assailants wielding firearms while the robbers searched the house for valuable items such as televisions, computers, and mobile phones. Additionally, the criminals forced the family members to provide their bank passwords and carry out money transfers, including PIX transactions, leading to a reported loss of approximately R$ 13,000.
According to police information, part of the gang was positioned outside the house to monitor the situation and provide support for the ongoing criminal activity. This event highlights the alarming levels of violent crime in the region and raises concerns regarding safety in suburban areas of Rio de Janeiro, further emphasizing the need for effective law enforcement responses to such criminal activities.
