Chamber to analyze requests for the dismissal of vice mayor suspected of killing jiu-jitsu professor in interior of SP
The City Chamber of Colina, SP, formed a commission to investigate the vice mayor Rafael Corrêa Rodrigues over allegations that he shot and killed a jiu-jitsu professor.
The City Chamber of Colina, São Paulo, has initiated an investigation into the vice mayor, Rafael Corrêa Rodrigues, following serious allegations of his involvement in the shooting death of jiu-jitsu professor Marcos Aurélio Abe. The incident reportedly occurred on March 8 during a heated argument outside Rodrigues' residence. Rodrigues, who turned himself in two days later, claims that he acted in self-defense, and he is currently free while facing these charges.
On February 16, 2023, the Chamber of Councilors unanimously agreed to accept three separate requests for the dismissal of Rodrigues. With the exception of the president of the Chamber, who abstained from voting, all eleven councilors supported the formation of a special commission to review the case. The commission is composed of three councilors and is tasked with conducting a thorough examination of the evidence presented in the allegations within a 90-day period before offering recommendations on whether to proceed with the vice mayor's potential removal.
This situation highlights the growing tension in local governance, especially amid serious criminal allegations involving elected officials. The outcome of this investigation may have significant implications for local politics in Colina, as it could alter the leadership of the municipality and raise questions about the accountability and integrity of public officials in Brazil.
